SUMMER SHAPE-UP

NEWS COPY

More than SIX MILLION British women will start their bikini diet today (sat May 16th) - but only one in 20 will achieve their desired body shape in time for their sunshine break.

A study found one in four adult females between the ages of 20 to 40 year olds will vow to ditch fatty foods in favour of the gym to tone up for their sunshine break.

And with the average holiday due to start on July 11th, the nation's women are giving themselves just eight weeks to get their body ready for their bikini.

But only 325,000 will don their bikini, grab their towel and head for the sand feeling completely happy with their beach body.

Trish Smith, of Slendertone which carried out the poll of 3,000 women, said: ''The thought of showing that extra bit of flesh in the summer months can be a daunting prospect.

''As soon as the weather gets warmer, it seems to give women the kick start they need to get in shape for the summer.

''Eight weeks is a realistic time for people to tone-up and feel more confident about hitting the beach or wearing skimpier clothes.''

The poll of 3,000 women also revealed three quarters will try to get in shape for the summer at some point, with a keen 12 per cent having even started their health kick as early as January.

And while the majority (65 per cent) will focus their attention on their stomach, 13 per cent are desperate to tone up their thighs and ten per cent dream of a firmer bottom as the nation's women focus on firming up those wobbly bits.

But for some, it's not just their holiday they want to get in shape for as 26 per cent are trying to tone their body simply because they are forced to flash more flesh during the summer months.

Almost one in ten start a fitness plan just because of the thought of having to wear a bikini in public.

However, 59 per cent of women don't reckon they will ever get to the shape they want to be.

Trish Smith added: ''Women are telling us that they have problem areas and their stomachs seem to be the area they worry about exposing the most.

''There are easy ways to tone-up this area, such as our clinically proven Slendertone System Abs, and as women are giving themselves enough time to shape up it looks like certain to be a 'hot' summer.''
