Finding Mr Right will take 11 years, 39 dates and cost more than #3,630, a study revealed.
In her search for 'The One' the average woman will go on 39 dates with 15 different men.
And it won't be cheap as each date will cost an average of #61.47 - a total of #2,397.33 before finding the perfect guy.
Women will also splash out a further #31.62 - #1,233.18 in total - before each date on a new outfit, make-up and getting their hair done.
But a lucky 16 per cent had a less difficult path to true love, as their first love was their ideal man.
A spokesman for www.onepoll.com, which carried out the poll, said: ''This survey shows that finding true love is a tricky business
''Not only is it costly, but it takes up a lot of time getting ready and going on all the dates, not to mention meeting people in the first place.
''It proves you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you kiss your Prince Charming.''
But the poll of 4,000 Brits revealed 86 per cent believe there is a special someone out there for everyone, with a lucky 63 per cent saying they have already met their ideal match.
Eleven per cent of people were so keen to meet 'The One' the actively starting searching for him when they were just a teenager.
Another 15 per cent started to seriously look for their dream guy when they were in their twenties.
It was also revealed that 18 per cent of married Brits don't think they tied the knot with the right person.
And 14 per cent are currently dating someone who they don't believe is 'The One',
An unlucky 19 per cent have even met, and then lost, their ideal partner.
Researchers also found that many women are setting their sights high, with a doctor named as the most attractive career for a guy.
A fireman came a close second followed by a lawyer, teacher and gym instructor.
And a nice personality is the main thing women are looking for in a man, along with a good sense of humour and intelligence.
